The "Stemm von dem Stroos" project

Since 2011 Les Hôpitaux Robert Schuman have been reviewing all stages of their meals provision processes and focusing on responsible purchasing while at the same time reducing and recycling food waste.

Below, we provide an initial list of the results obtained with the goal of promoting responsible and community-spirited consumption practices:

  • Bulk deliveries to reduce packaging and CO2 emissions and to limit our environmental footprint.
  • The selective sorting of all of our waste: the Superdreckskëscht label – leading hospital.
  • Reduction in the tonnage of food waste in 2012.
  • Committed to the development of a circular economy, we recycle our organic waste in the form of "biogas" (agreement with Oekolux).
  • An action plan implemented in cooperation with the treatment units to optimise the ordering of meals and to limit overproduction in the kitchens.
  • Purchasing local and seasonal products (10 more products included since 2011).
  • Local community-spirited activities including contributing food products to the Stëmm vun der Strooss association (agreement signed on December 3, 2012).

Fully aware of their role as participants in asolidarity-based economy, Les Hôpitaux Robert Schuman (Santé Services SA) are committed to providing the Stëmm vun der Strooss (La Voix De La Rue) association with free food products which have not left the restaurant facility (kitchen) and are fit for consumption.
For its part, Stëmm vun der Strooss(a not-for-profit association) is committed to organising the transportation of these foodstuffs and distributing them free of charge to the persons visiting their reception centres.
